Hyundai Creta Still Rules Compact SUV Segment in August 2024
It is also important to note that the Hyundai Creta remains the market leader in the compact SUV segment and even retains its leadership in the August 2024 sales. The latest sales figures clearly depicted that the Creta performed well in the market and it was able to sell nearly 16,800 units in the same month. This performance establishes it as the segment leader, it is the only compact SUV to post sales above the 10,000 units.
However, compared to July 2024, the compact SUV segment as a whole reported a significant increase of approximately 10 per cent in monthly sales. This rise can be blamed to the recent entries into the market by two new players, namely Citroen with the Basalt and Tata with the Curvv. These two models belong to the SUV-coupe class, but they are compact SUVs at that.
Close on the heels of the Creta in terms of sales, are the Maruti Grand Vitara and the Kia Seltos. The Grand Vitara was placed at the second position with more than 9,000 units sale and the Seltos was at the third position with over 6,500 units despatch. The Toyota Hyryder also did well in the market and sold in almost equal number as that of the Seltos.
The latest Tata car model which was launched in the market named Tata Curvv sold more than 3,400 vehicles in the first month of its launch. This good start suggests that Tata’s latest entrant in the SUV segment has found some favour with the masses. At the same time, the sales of the Honda Elevate went up by more than 28 percent compared with the previous month.
This segment’s Volkswagen’s Taigun and Skoda Kushaq both have seen sales pass the 1,500-unit barrier. The market performance of the models was also impressive with the Kushaq recording more than 40% Monthly Sales Improvement. The MG Astor kept up the sales figure, though it was slightly below the 1000 figure.
Another new comer in the segment, Citroen Basalt was able to attract 579 customers in the first month of its launch. This performance is way better than other Citroen models available in India which indicates a good beginning for the French automaker’s SUV-coupe. That said, Citroen C3 Aircross remained a weak performing car model with only 38 units sold in August, down by about 44 percent in monthly sales.
The compact SUV segment is one of the fastest-growing segments in the Indian automobile market and to meet the requirement of the diverse Indian auto market, manufacturers are launching new models or updating the existing models. Hyundai Creta, and the newcomers are the Tata Curvv and Citroen Basalt, the success of which proves that the segment is rather competitive and active.
